Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd (MHI) of Tokyo has delivered Japan'
first gantry-type planomiller with six milling heads. The company
reports that the machine can tackle five-sided machining upon each head
without changeover. undivided of MHI's customers, the Shiga Plant of Sumitomo
Precision proceedss Co. Ltd., uses it to machine constituents for aircraft
landing gear.

Each milling head has a 400 X 400-mm high rigidity ram with a 1000-
